Check your Drama at the Door.

In a previous post I recapped a weekend away as part of a Parade in Wildwood NJ. In this post I mentioned that I had recently re-joined this local Drum Corps after a 2 year absence. The reason for my departure had to do with some particular individuals and the drama they create and bad kharma that festers within. Flash forward 2 years to my rejoining, and pretty much avoidance of all drama and these particular individuals on a personal level. Don’t get me wrong I am civil and polite but do not by any means go out of my way to strike up conversations.

So this past weekend was a great weekend all around with the exception of one bit of drama, naturally to do with these certain individuals. So after the big parade Saturday a certain individual got engaged, came back to the motel and let everyone know. About an hour or 2 later, me, the hubby, and one of the other members of the corps (who happens to be a coworker of mine) were sitting up on the second floor of the motel outside my room. There are a bunch of people sitting down in the parking lot of the motel all milled about giving congratulations and the like.

So the parents of one of the engaged break out the champagne down in the parking lot and are passing it around. It was offered to the 3 of us although we were in no way a part of the group being up on the second floor minding our own business. I politely said 3 times no thank you to having some champagne. I just didn’t want any. About 5 minutes after the toast one of the parents of the engaged storms up the stairs and the following interaction takes place.

Parent of Engaged(Venomously) : So and So is very upset you didn’t participate in her grand exclamation of being engaged.

Me(Politely): I just didn’t want any champagne.

PoE: Well you could have just taken it and toasted and thrown it on the F*ck*n ground

Me: Bewildered not speaking

PoE: Storms up the stairs

Drama Ensues Downstairs, I mind my business and stay upstairs.

My first few thoughts were
If I didn’t want to participate in the toast and be a part of the group I would have gone into my motel room and shut the door.

My second thought was well maybe I should go downstairs, grab a dixie cup of champagne, toast and throw it on the ground like the PoE said.

Instead I took the high ground and did nothing.

Flash forward a few days and my sibling calls to see how I was after the trip home and get “my side of the story” and by “my side” I mean what actually happened.

Seems the Engaged stirred the drama by going to my sibling(who was mostly likely drunk at midnight) and sobbed on his shoulder.

So today my coworker got a call from my sibling to get her story as she was sitting right next to me.

Seems the Engaged sent off an email to some people (I believe mostly officers but one can’t be sure) and the fall out is happening. It’s like my friend is being called into court to testify.

Sorry for the long post but thems the brakes on my story. So comments…..

>What a weekend. I need a weekend to recover from my weekend.

As most (if not all) of you don't know I recently rejoined a local Drum Corps I had been active in for about 14 years before taking a break. This past weekend we marched in the New Jersey Elks Annual State Convention Parade which was held in Wildwood, NJ.

Friday the hubby and I packed up the car waved goodbye to the Puppies and began the long 4 hour drive in the nasty rainy weather. Our first stop had to be Chik – A – Fil for lunch. After a tasty lunch and 2 Malted Milkshakes to go back in the car and on the highway in the rain we went. Finally we arrive at our destination. And what a place it was. I will spare you all the scary details but let me sum it up by saying, I use the term bed loosely, sheets shouldn't be see-through, and it's a good thing we were only stayin 2 nights. Although what the motel lacked in ambiance it made up for in the fact it was 2 blocks from parade start and 1 block from the boardwalk. After a nice dinner with the parents and the Work Wife we hung around the hotel drinking and BS'ing.

Saturday was parade day and about midway through the day all of the clouds burned off and made for a nice day. It seemed for a bunch of drinkers who were up all night they all got up awfully early in the morning! The parade started at noon, as we were toward the end of the parade we didn't have to rush to get to the line up. And then we stood around and waited, and waited, and waited some more. Finally we get on our way down the 1.8 mile parade route. I am currently in the color guard and in the parade I carried the Drum Corps 75th Anniversary Flag (which is now about 10 years old). The best part about the parade was the Elks Color Guard in front of us had this hot guy and I got a front row seat to his ass for 1.8 miles 😉

After the parade it was relax and walk the boardwalk time. After marching for about 53 minutes almost 2 miles you would think my legs couldn't go anymore. And you would be right! The hubby and I checked out the sites (both the boardwalk sites and the Hot Mens Sites). Oh I should mention not only was it the Elks Convention but it was Senior Weekend (not senior citizens, and not seniors in college). Ah Youth…..it's wasted on the dumb and pretty.

Saturday night it was a fabulous boardwalk dinner and another round of sitting around drinking, then the playing members of the Drum Corps were invited to our host Elks hotel for some song and dance (by the drunk hottie who's ass I was watching). A couple songs an some announcements of Awards (we took 5th place not bad for only our second year at this event). Then it was back to hotel for more drinking and sleeping (trying to anyway)

Sunday it was up early, breakfast and then headed home. An uneventful drive home thankfully. The puppies were glad to see us and then off to the store for some much needed lunch fixins for the week then bed….

Now it's Monday I have played catch up at work as I write this…

Hope you all had a great weekend as well.

TION in the summer time.

Bon Voyage everyone off to Wildwood NJ for the weekend.

Big Parade on saturday I will be marching in. Will let ya know how the weekend goes when we return on sunday.

>What a weekend

>And so it is back to reality.

What a great weekend. Busy but great. It all started at 2pm friday when the Coalmine closed down early for the holiday. Friday night was dinner at our favoritest local Asian Restaurant, we had our usual sushi for the hubby and Tangerine Chicken for me.

Saturday was the easiest of the days. We did our duty and volunteered for our Greyhound Adoption group in the morning. Ran our usual grocery errands to pick up the last minute monday bbq stuff, and then in the the afternoon we decided to uncover the pool. Can you say GREEEN.

Sunday was more pool cleaning, some plant shopping, some plant planting and then our annual Fabulous trip to The Cheesecake Factory for the Hubby's Birthday Dinner! Although there was a 45 minute way for our table of 3 it was well worth it.

The hubby had
JAMAICAN BLACK PEPPER SHRIMP

Sauteed Shrimp with a Very Spicy Jamaican Black Pepper Sauce.
Served with Rice, Black Beans, Plantains and Cooling Mango Salsa

I had
SHRIMP SCAMPI WITH STEAK DIANE
Medallions of Beef Steak Covered with Black Peppercorns
and a Rich Mushroom Wine Sauce.
Served with Mashed Potatoes and Slow Grilled Onions
Paris Bistro-Style! Sauteed with Whole Cloves of Garlic, White Wine,
Olive Oil, Fresh Basil, Parsley and Tomato.

And our Friend Had
SEARED TUNA TATAKI SALAD
Pacific Albacore Tuna Lightly Seared and Served Rare with Avocado, Tomato and Mixed Greens Tossed with Wasabi Vinaigrette

Then it was on to the Cheesecake portion of the meal. The 3 options we went with were –

SNICKERS® BAR CHUNKS AND CHEESECAKE
Snickers Bar Baked right into Our Creamy Cheesecake and Topped with Fudge and Caramel

30th ANNIVERSARY CHOCOLATE CAKE CHEESECAKE
Two layers of our Original Cheesecake and Two layers of our Creamy Chocolate Fudge Cake filled with Chocolate Cream and finished with Crunchy Pearls of Chocolate.

VANILLA BEAN CHEESECAKE
Layers of Creamy Vanilla Bean Cheesecake, Vanilla Mousse and Whipped Cream.

This brings us to Monday the busiest and craziest of all the days. It all started at 6am when the hubby had to wake from his slumber to throw the pork butt in the smoker. Next out of bed was me to get myself ready for 2 Memorial Day Parades. As none of you may know I recently rejoined (after a 2 year abscence) a local marching band.

After 13 years of playing the Glockenspiel I took some time away due to some personal issues with some unpersonable people. Last fall I decided to go back after the President of the group had emailed me and asked me to return as the Drum Major was looking to step down after many years and they wanted to groom me to be the next Drum Major. So of course I said yes. Who wouldn't want to stand in front of a group of men (and some women) and wave a big stick!

The morning started with Breakfast and then on to lead the Hometown Parade. I have given up the Glock and now play the Flag. After the hometown parade we bussed it over to another town as is tradition and marched in their parade.

Now is when the fun begins. After the parades it was time to head home where the hubby was tending to the Pork Butt, Ribs, Chicken, and Beans he had piled into the smoker all morning. The afternoon and early evening was spent with some great friends, great Food (thanks hubby for all the hard work), and of course some Booze! Then for dessert we had some awesome Red Velvet Birthday Cupcakes, and homemade Oatmeal Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches.

Then it was bed time and now work……

I know this was a long post I will try to be better about posting more often. Life just sometimes gets in the way.
