>My Nose and other things

>Well here is the update you have all been waiting  for (well alright maybe not).

Tuesday morning was a whirlwind of activity, We arrived at the hospital, and I wasn’t in the waiting room but about 10 minutes before they called me to go back to the surgery suite. At this point it was put this gown on, put your belongings in this bag and sit on this gurney.

The nurse came around and asked all her questions, took my BP and Temp then left. Then the next person came in to ask some more questions and make sure I was doing ok. Here is my only complaint, when I spoke to the hospital pre-surgery they insisted I had to have an EKG, so 3 phone calls later it was settled I’d arrive early and they would do it then. Well guess who arrived early to find out no one knew a damn thing about it, so after much back and forth again, they did the EKG.

Once all of that was complete they allowed the hubby to come back and wait with me. In the meantime it was me and crappy daytime TV. AUGH! It was Maury and the baby daddies, and Jerry with the 3somes with my sister. I settled on The Price is Right. So sometime around noon or so My Doctor, The Anesthesiologist and The Woman I learned who would be driving my gurney all came to visit.  The hubby was teasing her and asked for her Gurney Drivers License cause of that one time I was in the Hospital for another surgery the girl hit every wall on the way to my room. She said “I’m a woman they revoked my Gurney License a long time ago”.

The next thing I remember is them giving me a shot and starting to wheel me away, then when I start to come to there I am in recovery, with all their St Patricks Decorations. I will admit I was a very bit woozy at that point. The nice nurse brought me some ginger ale and walked me around, then they sent me on my way.

It has been a tough few days but I do feel better. My biggest complaints are the constant dry mouth (especially after sleeping) and the fact I can’t breathe through my nose because of the Plastic Tubes up there keeping everything in place. I get the tubes removed on Monday and they say once that happens it will be so much better.  Oh and food. I miss food. It’s been soft foods since Tuesday night. Protein Shakes, lots of liquids, eggs, and last night I graduated to lukewarm soup.

So here I sit at home recovering. But avoiding the daytime tv.

>Bowling Week 8

>I’m almost ready for my close-up

>So Tuesday will be a big day for me. After 2 months of getting checked out and a very interesting sleep study, I will be having surgery for my sleep apnea and breathing issues.

The technical term for what I am having done is a Septoplasty with Turbinate Reduction – Septoplasty is a corrective surgical procedure done to straighten the nasal septum, the partition between the two nasal cavities. Ideally, the septum should run down the center of the nose. When it deviates into one of the cavities, it narrows that cavity and impedes airflow. Turbinate reduction may also be advised to further enlarge the nasal cavities.  Most surgeries are completed in 90 minutes or less, not including recovery time. (via wikipedia).

In addition to the above I am getting the double added bonus of  uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) the common surgical methods of removing the uvula. In case of UPPP, the tissues of the uvula, the soft palate, adenoids, tonsils and the pharynx, are removed. This surgery may include or exclude any of the above said locations from the surgery.

Part of the diagnosis (along with the basic office visit) was a sleep study to diagnose just how bad it was. Some of the interesting statistics were the fact that I stopped breathing about once every 2 minutes, stopped breathing for an average of 23 seconds, with the longest stretch of not breathing was 56 seconds.

So the hubby thought it would be funny to start telling people I was getting a new nose, and then proceeded to list the 4 options as The George Clooney, The Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), The Micheal (Jackson), or The Sicilian. Sorry to report the DR’s office didn’t have a book of noses to pick from so I am stuck with the one I got.

Tuesday is my surgery day, then it’s a week of recovery, Daytime TV is so bad I’ve started to DVR as many movies as I can so as to not get sucked into Maury, Rachel, Oprah, and the Soaps.

The worst part of the recovery will be the fact that I won’t be able to eat very much of anything. Tues and Weds will be liquid diet only, possibly by Thursday I can graduate to eggs, ice cream, and milkshakes.

So if I am feeling up to it next week while I am in my recovery induced crazyness I may just pop in and say hello….if not I’ll catch you all the following week.

>Nom Nom Nom….

>This past weekend the Hubby and I along with 2 of our good friends have the pleasure of eating dinner at the Culinary Institute of America. This was our friends first time there and our 5th.

I cannot put into words how FABULOUS the meal, and the company, was. I made the reservations for the 4 of us back in early January and was happy to find Saturday reservations available.

We dined this time at the Escoffier Restaurant, the most exquisite French food you could ask for. The best part is all of the chefs and waitstaff are students.

So in light of trying to describe my meal I will just post some pics of it at the end of this post……

>Busy Busy Busy

>Whew. What a weekend. It was CRAZY!

Saturday (with the impending doom of another storm we actually didn’t get) was a busy day. Besides haircuts which were desperately needed, we managed to squeeze in a fabulous lunch date with our friends Walt and Ken.
Now I say we squeezed it in was because the storm could have thwarted our plans yet again.

See Walt (from I am Walter) and Ken live in Albany. We live in CT. Meeting for lunch is not just something we can do spontaneously. We had this planned for oh about a month or so. What we do is meet “in the middle” between Albany and here. There is this fabulous restaurant in Hyde Park NY called The Eveready Diner (as seen on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives). It sits just a little north of The Culinary Institute of America. The food is worth the drive.

So after lunch we did some shopping, then headed home, long enough for me to frost the cake I made the night before and head out to our Bowling Wifes birthday dinner at a bar about an hour away. Below is a picture of the cake. Needless to say it was a big hit the the lesbians.

Sunday was another busy day. With the sun shining and the temperature above freezing the hubby and I were able to chip away at and clear up the slab of ice that was our driveway. We worked on that while waiting for my brother, sister-in-law and niece to arrive. They were coming to visit and have lunch with us. The hubby made a fabulous potato soup and the we made paninis to go with them.

While we were outside the dogs decided they wanted snow cones, I snapped this picture of them licking the snow pile in the yard.

After our visit it turned into hang out on the couch day. Since there was no Bowling last night due to some sportsball game we just hung out and caught up on shows we had recorded. We didn’t watch the Booper Sowl or the Commercials.

And now it’s Monday!

>Bowling Week #5

>This week we played Team Alley Cats. This is their second year with the league as previously they were all subs)

We took 3 points for the week which gives us 9.5 points which puts us in 7th place (up from 10th)

I bowled a 124,135, and 148.
