Rain Rain Go Away

Come again in the fall or winter please. I am tired of the phone showing this when I view the weather.

Been a not too busy week but busy enough to keep it moving. Last Sunday we had our friend Geoff over for pool time an Pizza on the Grill. His husband Mike was supposed to come too but he had been sick the last week so he stayed home.

Monday came round like it usually does and that meant the fun of the work week began anew. Work has been work, nothing exciting going on. though now that June has come and gone, it’s mid year review time. I LOATHE review time at work. To have to sit there and sum what I’ve done for the last 6 months just bores me. The whole self assessment part of the review process is ridiculous since it doesn’t matter what I say anyway. I will work on that this week since it will be so damn quiet due to the holiday on Thursday.

Wednesday Night was our first parade in 2 weeks. And of course per the title of this post it rained. Well I guess I should clarify, it started raining after we got there before the parade, then continued raining while I walked to the start. It rained some more while we waited. Then it picked up and rained when we started. It stopped about halfway through the parade but at that point we were already wet.

Here is some video the hubby took of us as we marched by.

Saturday we did our usual, visit to Mom to have coffee and catch up, and then our errands. We took the opportunity to go to the new Whole Foods that opened, we figured we would wait a month for the crowds to die down. Since it was lunch time we decided to also finally go check out the new Chipotle that opened at the mall. Below if the Burrito bowl I ordered with Carnitas. It was yummy! My only thing is they could have melted the cheese a bit but I guess that’s not what they do.

After lunch we headed out for our errands and saw this Wackadoo on the side of the road, then a few more signs planted in the ground spouting some religious craziness. So naturally I tweeted a picture of this. Below the picture are some of the captions I received as replies.

The Intern of Sin is a better career!

I find myself most bothered by the grammatical error

After taxes it’s really just a run down feeling…

Saturday afternoon I started playing my newest game for the PS3 LEGO Lord of the Rings. I love the LEGO games, my favorite so far I think being Harry Potter years 1-4 though the Star Wars ones were fun too. I’ve beaten HP 1-4 and have finished the story mode of years 5-7. Since I finally got the LOTR version I figured why not try that out. It was fun and I look forward to playing it some more.

Sunday has been a low key day, no Pride Festivities for us. NYC Pride is crazy on a normal year, I can only imagine the craziness this year what with SCOTUS gutting DOMA by finding section 3 unconstitutional, and overturning Prop 8. Instead I did my normal chores as we waited for the delivery men to drop off our new Leather Sofa. Isn’t he pretty?

20130630-155933.jpgWell that about sums the week up. This week we have a parade Tuesday night and then that’s it. No July 4th themed parades for us. We do have The Hubbies best friend from North Carolina visiting us for the week starting Tuesday night, he is also our Southern Supplies Mule as he bring stuff from North Carolina that we can’t get here. So we will entertain him for the week, which usually means I don’t have to cook much. We are contemplating a trip into NYC to see a show with him as he has never seen a Broadway show before.

Happy Pride Weekend, I hope you all had fun no matter what you did, and Happy Independence Day to all.

Nieces, Doggies, and Butterflies

So this past week found us hit with a ton of rain. Made for not so much going on during the week. But thankfully the weather cleared for the Weekend, which was chock full of things to do.

Friday night the hubby and I were able to convince my brother and sister-in-law to let our niece spend the night. As we usually do with her we went out on a date night. She had a great time coloring and taking pictures (see her below with the hubby). She also enjoyed eating, her meal, some of mine and some of the hubbies.

I don’t know about you but I don’t know very many almost 3 year olds that will eat, Chicken Fingers, Fries, A pickle, some of my coleslaw, some of my Fish & Chips, and Clams from the hubbies appetizer. She loved every bit of it.

Saturday we got up and went and had breakfast with Mom (her Grandma), and then had a full day of Picnicing with the Greyhound adoption group we volunteer for. The day couldn’t have been better. The Sun shone, there was a breeze, the dogs and the niece were super well behaved, all close to 150 dogs.

The picnic is a 2 fold event, first it’s a way for everyone involved to get together and celebrate all that we do during the year. Secondly it is the major fundraiser for the Medical Fund. We do a 50/50 raffle (the prize I sadly did not win was close to $7000), a Silent Auction, and a Chinese Auction. There are also vendors there selling greyhound goods galore.

Sandy knows how to have fun at the picnic. If you need her she will be over there laying down

Duncan was not far from her the whole time.

For the second year in a row they also included a Butterfly release to honor those pups who have crossed the rainbow bridge. The picture above captures the 3 we have lost since we started adopting 13 years ago. They each touched us in their own way and had/have their own quirks. Misty was the Moo Cow due to her being white with black spots. Crystal was the Hubby’s girl. Jonny was my boy who occasionally thought he was a lap dog.

Sunday was Father’s Day and we did spend the afternoon with my Dad and the rest of the family, mom included as dad sprung her from the skilled nursing facility for the day. We ran our usual errands then visited and ate and drank. Overall it was a good day.

No parades last week, well ok there was a Flag Day ceremony I missed due to the picnic, the next one isn’t until next week. Work has been status quo, we started summer hours last week which is good when I get to leave 1 day a week at 2pm but bad when I’m only doing the half hour lunch thing.

Oh we did manage to finally book a vacation. We decided on a cruise that leaves from Puerto Rico with stops in St Thomas, St Kitts, Aruba, and Curacao. We will spend 1 day/night in San Juan before the cruise. If anyone has been there give me a shout and let me know what to see and where to eat. We are staying at a cute little place I found called At Wind Chimes Boutique Hotel in the Parque area which sits between Condado and Ocean Park. More to come on this later as we finalize other stuff.

Before that trip we have Grapehounds weekend coming up at the end of July. There should be some good posts to recap that fun filled winery weekend.

Hope all is well with everyone out there!

June is Busting Out All Over

So yeah it’s June isn’t it. Where has the year gone. Let’s recap May shall we parade season began, Memorial Day Meat-A-Palooza was had and then our friends got married on the last day of the Month. So I guess I will spare you those details since I won’t remember much and just jump ahead to a weekend post.

The work week was semi uneventful. We had a parade on the 5th in which we marched once leading the parade and then again closer to the end. It was thankfully not too bad of a march both length and weather wise.

Friday night after the torrential downpours subsided briefly, the Hubby and I met 4 friends and went had a fabulous night out at a semi new restuarant local to 1 of the couples.

500 Degrees on Main Street – touts itself as Mediterranean with Asian spin on the American Grill. And quite honestly Chef’s Eric (who is CUUUUTE) and Chef Manny (who is Cuute) didn’t disappoint.

I started with the Fish Fritters – which came with a delicious Cucumber Chili Relish

For my Entree I had the Ribeye which came with Onion Rings, Asparagus, and I substituted Caponata for the Mashed Potatoes it should have come with.

20130609-190029.jpgThe first drink I had was called Purple Rain and looked and tasted like Grape Kool-Aid, so for my second drink I moved on to the Cucumber Martini

20130609-190036.jpgTo top the evening off, one cannot pass up the opportunity to take a Selfie in the Bathroom “Fainting” on the fainting ottoman.

Saturday the fun continued, but not until AFTER I marched the 3rd parade of the week. It was Gayme Night so my noggin went into cooking mode and whipped up this Fabulous Giant Cookie.

20130609-190044.jpgHere is the before, it has Dark Chocolate Chips, Heath Bits, and Butterscotch Chips.

20130609-190050.jpgHere is the after, I frosted it with half chocolate and half Caramel buttercream I wanted out of the fridge from a cake I had made a couple weeks prior.

20130609-190104.jpgAnd here it is after the vultures started attacking it (me included).

20130609-190059.jpgIt’s not Gayme Night without my Signature Funny name written on my cup.

Sunday was Brunch Day. Our friends whose turn it was to host have a gorgeous house with a beautiful outdoor area poolside for entertaining. They always go above and beyond with the decorating.

20130609-190111.jpgTable for 9 (yeah somehow there was a stray invited).

For our contribution I made Biscuits and Bacon Jam

20130609-190125.jpgWith the passing of Dick Clark, who had a good run as our Patron Saint of Brunch, we have moved on and elected

Jon Hamm as our new Patron Saint of Brunch, for reasons I am sure ALL of you are aware of.

Well that about wraps things up here. Nothing super exciting going on here, parade season is in full swing, the pool is open and the social calendar is looking to be pretty good this summer.
